their main computers instead of a netbook [04/07 02:25AM]
The popularity of netbooks puts Intel in a tough spot. Demand for these devices has risen quickly since the first Eee PC hit the market in 2007 and this product segment represents one of the few bright spots these days for the hardware industry, which HP NX6120 battery otherwise faces slowing end-user demand for new computers. But Atom processors are less expensive than Intel's other processors, and can represent a smaller percentage of the total component cost of a laptop.

For these reasons, Intel executives would rather see users with Core 2 Duo-based laptops as their main computers instead of a netbook.

In the plus category, big time, is a new rich attachment viewer that displays Office, iWork '08 (Apple's productivity suite), PDF, and many flavors of still images inside the Mail app. Using pinch (shrink), spread (zoom), and flick (scroll) gestures, documents that are too large to fit on the display are easier to navigate than on HP NX6125 battery most other devices, and iPhone is surprisingly quick with the document conversion.

Subsequent drops chipped away at the screen, producing a spider-web-like matrix of cracks by about the 5th drop. The touchscreen, iPhone's 480-by-320-pixel trademark visage, no longer responded to human touch. And then there was that unfortunate motorcycle event.

Finally, TeleNav also added what it's calling a TeleNav Enterprise Server (TES), and if that HP NX6130 battery sounds familiar, there's good reason -- think BlackBerry. The new TES, which is a separate product and must be purchased in addition to the TeleNav Track service, is designed to simplify TeleNav Track integration with organizations' existing infrastructure and applications, such as CRM or ERP apps, payroll, accounting and dispatch systems, TeleNav says.

Further impeding developers' ability to serve the kind of functionality iPhone power users want is Apple's SDK itself. The tool, and its restrictive user agreement, corrals developers into a tightly controlled sandbox that makes some applications impossible. For instance, Veency is a VNC (virtual network computing) server that runs on the iPhone, allowing you to manipulate the phone's interface directly on a HP 2710P battery computer desktop -- a boon for massive text-entry tasks. But because Apple's SDK prohibits server apps, the Cydia Store is the only source for Veency. TV-Out lets you transmit live video from the iPhone camera to a TV or DVD recorder via a standard video cable; Apple's SDK only lets you send still pictures and iPod or YouTube videos to TV. SwirlySMS sends and receives rich-content SMS, another capability restricted by the SDK. Searcher lets you scan all iPhone contents -- SMS, contacts, notes, events, bookmarks, and other files -- for any string. Apple SDK apps don't have access to global phone contents.

The first sign of change in Intel's limitations on Atom-based systems came from Dell, which unveiled the Z520-based Inspiron Mini 12, which sports a 12-inch screen, in October. The arrival Dell 1691P battery of that system signaled the Z-series was not bound by the same hardware restrictions as the N270.
